Boulder Fire Training Center

The City of Boulder experienced difficulties from the beginning with the proposed Valmont Butte site of their new Fire Training Center. In response to that dilemma, in the fall of 2005, the City conducted a study to see if any other candidate sites were feasible. The study came up with only one other candidate site - on the west side of the Diagonal just east of the south end of the Boulder Reservoir dam.

The City of Boulder Planning Department held an informational meeting in Gunbarrel on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, to share information on these two sites with the public. Following that meeting, the planning staff reviewed the City's options in preparation for a presentation to the City Council on Tuesday, February 21, 2006. At that meeting, the planning staff recommended that the City drop the Valmont Butte site from the list of candidates and pursue the development of the Boulder Reservoir (Wells) site. The Boulder City Council voted 6-3 in favor of that recommendation.

Maps of the two candidate sites are available via the links below.
