2006 Trail Improvements in Gunbarrel

One trail segment completing the connection between Gunbarrel and Niwot was constructed
in 2006. The opening ceremony for that segment was held on 12 July 2006.
The trail segment starts where the Cottontail Trail crosses North 71st Street one-quarter mile
north of Lookout Road. The Cottontail Trail weaves northeast between the ditches until
it joins the 75th Street extension trail at the northeast corner of Gunbarrel Estates.
From there, the new trail segment continues between the ditches for one-third of a mile.
From this point, it turns north, crosses the Boulder and Left Hand Ditch on a new
four-foot culvert, crosses a smaller concrete lined ditch, and enters the cow pasture.
After approximately two-tenths of a mile, the trail passes under Highway 52 in a
new concrete pedestrian underpass to join the Niwot Trail system north of the highway.
